How Long Does Google Take to Index a New Site in 2026?

Google says crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, and a brand-new site can take a few weeks before Google notices it. You can't force indexing, but a submitted sitemap, one indexing request per page and links from other pages help Google find your URLs sooner.

How to check whether you're indexed

Search site:yourdomain.com for a rough view, keeping in mind Google says the site: operator doesn't necessarily return every indexed URL. For a definite answer, open Search Console's URL Inspection tool. It shows Google's indexed version of a page and why it could or couldn't be indexed. "Test live URL" checks whether the current page is indexable.

Request indexing once, then wait

In URL Inspection, owners and full users can click Request indexing. Each property has a daily limit, and Google says that requesting a recrawl of the same URL several times won't get it crawled faster. Use the requests on your newest and most important pages, one time each.

Submit a sitemap for everything else

• A single sitemap can hold up to 50,000 URLs or 50MB uncompressed. Split larger sitemaps and use a sitemap index.
• List only absolute, canonical URLs.
• Submit it in Search Console or reference it in robots.txt.

Why a new site gets missed
